What does HIIT stand for?
HIIT stands for high intensity interval training. This type of fitness training has long been known for producing fantastic results such as improved muscle tone, strength, cardiovascular fitness and metabolic function (the latter contributing to fat burning and weight loss). It helps improve sports performance, and/or contribute to weight loss and cardiovascular fitness programmes.
Why is it called HEALTHY HIIT?
Healthy HIIT combines the benefits and safety of Pilates with the results of interval training. This helps you avoid injuries that can typically be associated with this type of training, and work at a level that is appropriate for you.
What is a Healthy HIIT session like?
These sessions are a mixture of high intensity training intervals and Pilates recovery intervals. The Pilates intervals are functional and compliment your high intensity movements, training your brain to handle your movements correctly.
You also take part in a Pilates warm up to prepare your muscles, and a cardio warm up to prepare your heart, then following the intervals you cool down in an equally balanced manner.
Who can do it?
Like Pilates, Healthy HIIT can be modified to suit most age groups and experience levels.
It is most appropriate for those who are free from injury and lead a relatively active lifestyle, and who do not have a heart condition (due to its cardiovascular nature).
Why do it?
25 minutes of interval training promotes more health benefits than long workouts of an hour or more.

Interval training elevates your post-exercise metabolism which remains at an increased level for up to 24 hours after your session meaning you burn fat faster for a whole day after your workout.

It’s great for your heart, boosting muscle function. Studies have also shown that in as little as a few weeks cyclists were able to ride nearly twice as long before becoming breathless etc.
Results come quickly! They can show in as little as a week depending on the person.
When and where?
Sessions take place at St Peter's Church, Maney Hill Road, Sutton Coldfield.

Healthy HIIT Mondays: 7.45pm in the main hall. This session has a core strength focus and is a great way to undo any weekend indulgence!

Healthy HIIT Fridays:
5.45pm in the main hall. This is the main event! Be ready to enter the weekend feeling your best and kick start your metabolism.
Is this just advanced Pilates?
These sessions are nothing like your regular Pilates class and are not developed to replace it.
Interval training is a completely different type of exercise that unlike Pilates will raise your heart rate.

This session uses the control and precision of Pilates movements to make interval training safer.
Where did Healthy HIIT come from?
Glen Withers, co-founder of the Australian Physiotherapy and Pilates Institute created the programme after having tried and been injured doing conventional interval training. He used his vast experience as a Physiotherapist and Pilates teacher to create Healthy HIIT and enable HIIT training to be done safely.
