Pilates for Neurological Conditions
"90% of the stimulation and nutrition to the brain is generated by the movement of the spine."
- Dr Roger Sperry 1981 Nobel Prize Winner
Conditions such as Multiple Sclerosis, Parkinson's Disease and symptoms of a Stroke can affect mobility, balance, strength, flexibility, cognition and coordination.
Pilates can be an incredibly powerful tool to help improve and enhance lifestyle and functional ability for those affected by such illnesses. Not only does it stimulate the brain's function and improve strength and mobility, but just as importantly, Pilates can re-establish trust and appreciation of the body and mind.
"Last February I was advised by my Multiple Sclerosis Consultant to take up Pilates as regular exercise so I began to search around to find a class that would suit my needs.
Due to having poor mobility and at the time very low self confidence I found it very difficult to find a suitable class, then my physiotherapist recommended Espilates. February 2018 I finally plucked up the courage to contact Eloise. Thank goodness I did -I've never looked back.
Eloise comes to my house for a one hour personal training session and I can't express how much I look forward to my session. Due to my MS my lessons can change weekly just because of how the illness can you make you feel. This being said I never feel short changed of a thorough, intense lesson that pushes me to my full capabilities. Eloise knows exactly how to pace the lesson and change exercises accordingly to meet my needs on the day but still provides the challenge and makes me achieve my full potential.
Eloise's own performance management has involved learning more about 'Pilates and neurological conditions' and my lessons are always personalised to maintaining my strengths and building on my weaknesses. The biggest factor for me as to why I love my lessons is because Eloise cares. She doesn't just teach - she encourages, advises and passes on her infectious passion to achieve your very best whatever level of ability you are.
Eloise is as excited and proud of me as I am of myself when I achieve an exercise that has been a little more of a challenge to master!
In a nutshell Eloise makes Pilates fun, motivating, inspiring and purposeful to my everyday needs. Thank you Eloise for your support, care and infectious passion of Pilates."
